Nixon Cricket – supporting local clubs across the UK.

We all know that Nixon Cricket makes top quality bats thanks to the skills of the man himself, Nick Nixon.

But Nixon’s main focus is, quite simply, to raise England’s enthusiasm and love for this fantastic game… which is why we’re great supporters of local clubs.

Nixon not only supply fabulous clothing and equipment for every position, we also do club kits.

We’ll personalise your kit to proudly display your club and sponsors logo, making your team feel uniquely special as they charge into the coming season.

Importantly, all our kit’s are made in the UK, which gives us shorter delivery times and tighter quality control – as well as keeping the work, and the love of the game, right here on home turf.

Nixon will do Show Days where we come to your club and… well, you play cricket with our stuff!  It’s the only way for us to show you what we’re made of.

So get your club ready for 2011!

Come and see quality – come and see Nixon.

No nonsense Nixon Cricket

Nixon Cricket has very deep rooted core principles… integrity, honesty, quality, pride.  These aren’t aspects of the business that have been worked on or developed; they’re integral to the very name and sit at the heart of everything Nixon does.

Nick, Carl & Ryan know that they’re raising the standard, but they also believe they should be the rule and not the exception.

Nick was recently interviewed by Cricket Yorkshire:

“You go to one of these large sports chains to buy a cricket bat and you get some teenager selling it to you. What do they know about a cricket bat?  You’re paying £300 for it so they should know… and it only lasts you six months!”

Nixon believe that cricket is a national sport to be proud of and, as such, the equipment should be something to be proud of too.

The right bat is an amazing addition to an amazing player, and it should be with you for as long as possible.  That’s why Nixon bats aren’t mass produced; they’re handmade, quality pieces of equipment crafted from English willow…  Nick even gives tips on how to make your bat last longer. http://cricketyorkshire.moonfruit.com/#/nixon-cricket/4546787548

So – integrity, honesty, quality, pride.  These four words are what Nixon are all about, and that makes it a business with a fantastic life span.

Profit is something…  reputation is everything.

Petty Thanks Nixon As England Honours Edge Closer

Rochelle Petty relaxes with ex-Aussie legend Geoff Lawson during England's 2010 training camp in India

ROCHELLE PETTY is convinced the support of Nixon Cricket will propel her into the all-conquering England women’s team.

The 21-year-old from Thirsk is an already an established member of the England Academy after impressing with the ball with Yorkshire.

Her swing-bowling and useful batting have now caught the eye of the national selectors and she was first reserve for this winter’s tour of Sri Lanka – having just missed out on the initial party.

But the Leeds Met University student, who also plays Thirsk CC in the Yorkshire Senior League, is ready to turn up the heat on England’s attack.

“I’m really pleased with the way things are going and to be so close to England recognition is fantastic,” Petty said.

“I would have loved to have gone to Sri Lanka but knowing that I’m first reserve for the bowlers is great.

“I’ve had some fantastic experiences this year – going to India for a training camp was a great experience and swinging the ball in a country where the World Cup takes place in 2013 gave me a huge boost.

“I’ve got a lot of university work as I’m doing my finals this year but my cricket won’t suffer – there’s six training camps in Loughborough and I’m looking forward to them.”

Petty has been kitted out in full by Nick Nixon kit and admits her Yorkshire and England team-mates have been impressed.

From bats to pads, Petty has the cream of the ‘Craftsman to Batsmen’ products and added: “Nick has been a great support to me over the last few years and the quality of his kit is fantastic.

“I’m very proud to use his bats and when I’ve been in the nets the England girls have been really impressed.

“It would be great to walk out in England colours with Nixon equipment and I hope to do that sooner rather than later.”

Editor’s Note: Rochelle is one of the models on our website and uses a Nixon Thunder and 964 Pads and Gloves.

Caring For Your Nixon bat

Nixon bats need oiling, the traditional way, which we believe is still the best way to protect your bat against moisture penetration. Apply 2-3 coats of raw linseed oil with a soft cloth, avoiding the splice area.

The most vulnerable area is the toe, which will swell if allowed to absorb moisture and may split open. It is also important that you don’t let your bat dry out through exposure to excessive heat or sunlight eg.leaving it in a hot car or standing next to a radiator.

At monthly intervals, clean the face and toe with very fine sandpaper and apply a light coat of oil with a soft cloth.

All new bats should be “knocked in” using a bat conditioning mallet. The bat is ready for use when you can no longer impress mallet marks on the bat’s face. Knocking in should be done with care and patience. Failure to do so may result in rapid deterioration of the bat face.

Surface cracks and bruising due to the nature of the game are quite normal after use and should not cause concern. If, however, you suspect structural damage, you should contact your supplier, as we can repair most damage quite easily. Do not attempt your own repairs as this will affect the warranty, as will abuse or neglect.

Nixon Helps Flintoff Grab Lord’s Glory (Sessay’s John, not Freddie!)

John Flintoff with the National Village Trophy at Lords

As fairy tales go they don’t come much more special than John Flintoff’s at Lords last summer.

More than 30 years after being ruled out of the Village Cricket Club Final, he finally laid the demons to rest as North Yorkshire’s Sessay beat Oxfordshire outfit Shipton-under-Wychwood by seven wickets.

In 1976 Flintoff, no relation to the former England star, had been rules out of Sessay’s oly previous trip to the home of cricket with a back injury. But at the ripe old age of 55, Flintoff’s 13 not out helped his side past their target of 228, the highest ever chase in the final, and ended his village cup career on a high.

“I can’t play another game in the competition after that – it was just an incredible feeling and I could only dream of being out in the middle at the end,” said Flintoff, who used his trusty Nixon Storm at HQ.

It was special for the whole team but it meant a little bit more to me as it was my last chance after missing out in 1976.

“I honestly didn’t think I would get the chance to play at Lords again so to win the cup was amazing. I got a lot of the limelight after what happened last time and my name, but the restof the lads were amazing.”.”

It capped an incredible year for Flintoff after he blazed a half century for Yorkshire for the Yorkshire over 50’s, as they won the Sir Garry Sobers Masters Festival in Barbados. Flintoff hit 50 at the world famous Kensington Oval and he added: “I’ve had a decent time of late and it was nice to spread the word about Nixon as well. Some of the locals had heard of the bats as Nick obviously does a good job.

“I just hope there’s plenty more runs left in my bat as I’ve still got a lot of Saturday cricket left in me.”

With thanks to Craig Chisnall for this article.
